MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR PUNJAB
As the Chancellor, University of the Punjab, it is my pleasure to write for students of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore. Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex is one of the premier medical institutes in the country providing excellent |
|
medical care and producing high quality postgraduate medical doctors
for the last 23 years. There is a shortage of doctors all over the world, more so in our country. We have a very high infant and maternal mortality rate. The average age of a Pakistani is 61 years compared to 81 years in the developed world. Our average age has increased to 61 years from 40 years in 1978.
In 1971 there were only 3000 doctors in the country. The first chairman of the Peoples Party Quaid-i-Awam, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed was the first person to recognize the shortage of doctors and he started the process of increasing the number of medical colleges so as to alleviate suffering of the poor masses who are the source of power in any democratic set up.
In line with the manifesto of the Pakistan Peoples Party, the government is determined to ensure provision of the best healthcare facility to every citizen of the country. This goes a long way in the fulfillment of the dream of Shaheed Mohtharma Benazir Bhutto
who had declared this as her mission. Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore, affiliated with University of the Punjab, will go a long
way in achieving the goals of health policy of our government whose main objective is to improve the health of the people by producing high quality medical doctors.
Mr.
Latif
Khosa
